Temps Strike Back
2011 has been a tough year for temporary workers.
Temporary workers have had a particularly turbulent 2011, with the AWR (Agency Worker Regulations) being introduced in October and then recently the public sector strikes affecting main transport links.
AWR was introduced on the 1st October and whilst the principles benefit those employed on a temporary basis, research indicated that employers may cease to employ agency staff due to fear of the regulations and the implications this may have on their business. AWR dictates that after 12 weeks of continuous temporary employment, agency workers are entitled to the same rights as their equal employed on a permanent contract. Many employers expressed concerns that this would defeat the object of temporary labour and eliminate the benefits to them.
Following in the wake of this storm, Wednesday 30th November saw a number of Public Sector workers deciding to take strike action. This left many temporary workers unable to get to their work assignments due to relying on public transport, which was yet another blow to already vulnerable workers.
Solutions cater for temporary staff across all sectors and have kept a positive outlook throughout the past few months which has assured our existing clients and candidates.
