IT professionals to work on "soft skills"

Jo Knaggs comments on research published by popular IT job board CW jobs.

IT professionals need to hone their softer skills, according to research from IT recruitment website CWJobs.co.uk.

CWJobs conducted research among more than 1,000 jobseekers exploring requisite skills in the IT sector, and found that 93% think that they would be more valuable to businesses if they possessed better soft skills.

The research also reveals that 76% feel a lack of soft skills, such as people management and business acumen, is preventing them and their peers from taking board level roles. A further 86% feel their employment prospects would be improved if they demonstrated soft skills when job hunting.

While many IT professionals may feel confident applying their technical knowledge and experience at work, people management followed by business and financial awareness, are the skills that they feel they’re lacking the most.

Jo Knaggs Senior IT Consultant says that this research does not surprise her, but if the candidate spends time talking through the role with their consultant they can be far better prepared when it comes to selling themselves at interview. Here at solutions we invest time in our candidates as we recognise how important they are important to us.
